What Is a Shillelagh?
A shillelagh (pronounced shi-lay-lah) is the most iconic Irish stick there is. Traditionally made from blackthorn or oak, the shillelagh was designed for self-defense, and later became a proud symbol of Irish strength and heritage.
It’s usually shorter than a walking stick, with a thick, knobbed head—perfect for a firm grip or, in older times, delivering a solid thump.
