This Blackthorn Shillelagh features a lovely natural handle and a particularly interesting rustic shaft. Rather than being perfectly straight, the shaft runs down, moves gently to one side, and then straightens again, following the natural way the Blackthorn grew.
That slight crookedness is one of the best features of this stick. It gives it a wonderfully traditional appearance and makes it clear that its shape comes directly from nature rather than being made to look perfectly uniform. No two pieces of Blackthorn grow exactly the same way, and this one has plenty of individual character.
Finished with boiled linseed oil, the natural colour, bark and texture of the Blackthorn are brought out beautifully while retaining its rustic appearance. At 102 cm, this is a distinctive traditional Irish walking stick with an unusual natural shape and plenty of personality.
